Big and Little Career Exploration Continues in 2016

Lake Region Vocational Center students were mentors to students at Songo Locks Elementary School during the year as they explored careers associated with the center's programs. Students used carpentry tools to build coat racks and stools, listened to their heartbeats with stethoscopes, dusted and examined their fingerprints, sanded and polished automobile head-lamps, learned how small engines function, and decorated cakes and made breakfast sandwiches.

Gillian Wood - Design Technology

Gillian is a first year Design Technology student. Despite being one of the youngest students to attend the program, she has worked on an impressive array of client projects and competitions. Her projects include menus for cafe', posters for open house and numerous logo designs. She also competed in the SkillsUSA Advertising Design State Competition and is a finalist in the Penobscot Language School Logo Competition. ~ Mr. Soards

LRVC hosted its annual career fair on June 5th, 2016. Over seventy diverse careers represented by Maine businesses/organizations including Sabre Yachts, IBEW, Bridgton Hospital, Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, Bridgton Veterinary Clinic, and WMTW Meteorologist-Brooke Mallory described their professions and answered questions.

Congratulations to Wei-How Huang! Wei was recognized Saturday April 30, 2016 for his outstanding achievement as the CTE student of the year from WRVC. The event was hosted by Lewiston Regional Vocational Center at the Green Ladle Resturaunt. Wei was one of 26 students from across Maine to be honored. His plan for next year is to attend USM for engineering to continue his career utilizing the skills he has gained while in the Drafting program under the instruction of Peter Morton.

KAYTLYN TERRY  (pictured with Instructor Eric Botka) is in the senior Culinary Arts program and has been the model of consistency over the past two years. "Kaytlyn comes to class ready to go and excited to learn" says Eric Botka.  "Kaytlyn is also most helpful during class and with the dinners we put on during the year."  

Kaytlyn is a SkillsUSA officer and competed in SkillsUSA during both her junior and senior year. Her career choice was decided when she was just 11 years...

First year law enforcement students with their instructor. Students are allowed to use the police cruiser for patrol and for simulated traffic stops.

Olivia Wheeler - Baking & Pastry

Olivia Wheeler is a second year MVHS student in the Baking and Pastry Program.  She excels in her studies at both schools.  A natural leader, she is very determined to do her best work and always with a smile.  She never hesitates to assist her fellow students, and is very respected by both staff and peers. She won the gold medal at Skills/USA in the Community Service contest and is a state officer for the CTSO. ~ Chef Pelletier

Former Health Occupations Student Receives Sunshine Award from Bridgton Hospital

Bridgton Hospital presented its most recent Sunshine Award to Bridgette Letarte, CNA. The Sunshine Award was established to reward and celebrate the extraordinary skills and compassionate care given by technical support staff. Sunshine Award recipients consistently demonstrate compassion, patient and family focused care, passion about life, patient advocacy, and their support of all healthcare team members. Bridgette received her CNA certification in 2014.

On March 14, the Business Management Class went to the Future Business Leaders of America Spring Conference and competed in several competitions against students from across the state.

Addie Blais (above right) of Lake Region High School and Madison Parks (above left) from Sacopee Valley High School competed in the Graphic Design Competition and won Third Place, which included a $500.00 scholarship to Johnson and Wales University. The girls created a digital sales kit for a banquet hall.
