The 2014 Automotive Technology classes all participated in rebuilding a '36 Chevy Street Rod and a '78 Ford F-150 2-wheel drive truck.  The Automotive Drivetrains class rebuilt the engine on the '78 Ford and the rear axles on both vehicles while the Auto Tech 1-3 classes worked on the brakes, electrical systems, etc.

After working all year on these projects, they coordinated with Oxford Plains Dragway in order to have the instructors drag race the two vehicles.  To see the results, please...

 

Construction Students Create a Cherry Book Cabinet for the Law Enforcement Program

Showcasing their skills, Mr. Moore's Construction Technology students presented a cherry cabinet to the Law Enforcement Program. Students Kenneth Plummer, Stephanie Rankin, and Skyler Rich worked on this project. In addition to cabinetry, these students learned basic wood frame construction skills.

The construction program builds and sells playhouses, chicken coops, tool sheds and garden furniture to offset program costs.

On a cold and rainy Wednesday morning, Lake Region Vocational Law Enforcement Instructor Shawn McDermott and students Ethan Green, Jared Jordan and Steven Milton joined forces with the Bridgton Police, the Maine State Police, and the Oxford County Sheriff's Office to carry the Special Olympics torch from Bridgton to Harrison.

Media students Simon French and Ben Morris will represent Maine in the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) "Spark a Reaction" 2014 Teen Video Challenge. They submitted the video through the Ellsworth Public Library and were chosen as the winner for the state of Maine. The winner of this national competition is voted upon online. On Friday, May 9, Law Enforcement students from Lake Region Vocational Center and Oxford Hills Technical School competed against each other in a mock trial at the Bridgton District Court.

The criminal trial, which involved the fictional case of a seventeen year old girl dying after being given alcohol, was tried before Judge Peter Darvin.

At a ceremony held in Lewiston  on May 3, Chance Gallant (center), a Fire Science and Cooperative Education student, received the honor of  LRVC Student of the Year. Congressman Mike Michaud (pictured on the left) and Dr. Don Cannan, Executive Director of Maine Administrators of Career and Technical Education made the presentation.

On May 3, Brandon Tibbetts (left) and Brian Brooks (right) competed at the 2014 Ford AAA Competition held in Epping, New Hampshire.

The students scored highest points on a written test in order to qualify for this compettion. Instructor Steve Christy worked with the boys prior to the event on a practice vehicle donated by Rowe Ford of Auburn and Westbrook.

The first round of the Ford AAA Student Auto Skills Competition was concluded in mid-March. Students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their automotive knowledge by taking an online exam. Students scoring the highest in the state (typically top ten teams) then moved on to participate in a "hands-on" competition within the state.

PATHS had two teams qualify for the state level competition:

Hancock County Technical students and staff will be working for tips on Monday, May 5th from 5:00-7:00pm at the Ellsworth Pat's Pizza. All money earned will go towards student efforts to raise $25,000 for their trip to the National SkillsUSA Competition held in Kansas City, MO during the last week in June.

Come out for some great food. You will get great service and will be helping out a great cause.
