Quinn Sluzenski, Computer Electronics student at the St. Croix Regional Technical Center, competed last week in the SkillsUSA National Competitions in Kansas City. After successfully advancing to the second round in the Prepared Speech competition, Quinn was awarded the Bronze Medal! SCRTC would like to congratulate Quinn on her outstanding accomplishment. We are very proud of her!

Kolbe Clifford of Casco Bay and David Dutton of Cape Elizabeth claimed third place at the 65th Annual National Champion at the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Finals at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan! 

 

Students were graded on quality repair workmanship and safety, combined with the results of a written examination taken previously.

Cheyenne Raymond, an Early Childhood Education student, was the lucky winner of the Region Two MELMAC Initiative College Goodie Basket, awarded for putting her college acceptance letter into a drawing for the basket. The Goodie basket included personal care items, school supplies, and snacks to help with the transition to college life. MELMAC Initiative Creates Opportunity for CTE Students’ Industry Visits

Region Two students visited two industries, last month, as part of their MELMAC Initiative to aspire students to take advantage of post-secondary education and industry opportunities in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) trades.

McAfee Region Two’s CTE “Student of the Year”

Emily McAfee was named Region Two’s CTE (Career and Technical Education) “Student of the Year” and participated in a dinner ceremony in Lewiston sponsored by MACTE (Maine Association of Career and Technical Education), an association of the state’s twenty-seven CTE Directors.

Wearing full turnout gear with air packs, Evan Armington, Chance Gallant and Shaun Loreng passed their State Practical End Tests. They climbed ladders, worked on roofs, crawled on floors in a training building, rolled, packed and deployed hoses. They donned Haz-Mat suits, tied knots, flowed foam at a simulated fire, demonstrated inspection skills and showed how they "take and relinqish command at situation".  Instructor Rick Shepard is "very happy and proud of a very successful first year"....

The 2014 Automotive Technology classes all participated in rebuilding a '36 Chevy Street Rod and a '78 Ford F-150 2-wheel drive truck.  The Automotive Drivetrains class rebuilt the engine on the '78 Ford and the rear axles on both vehicles while the Auto Tech 1-3 classes worked on the brakes, electrical systems, etc.

After working all year on these projects, they coordinated with Oxford Plains Dragway in order to have the instructors drag race the two vehicles.  To see the results, please...

Students from the Welding & Metal Fabrication Program helped out at the new CBC (Community Bike Center ) site on Granite Street in Biddeford and the Electrical Program Students completed some work at Clifford Park in Biddeford.
